Planning for 2022

It’s certainly not unusual to reflect at year’s end and make plans for the coming year. Having started this blog, I’ve decided this may be the best way to hold myself accountable for my personal goals in 2022. I’ve been reading several books about productivity and minimalism, so these have inspired me.

Chaos to Order

This is my theme for 2022. So much of my life is in a state of disarray, and I’ve had enough of it. The magnitude of clutter both reflects my negative self-image and fuels it. In some ways, I have buried myself alive amidst my belongings.

Because I didn’t fall into this predicament suddenly, I’m fully aware that it will take time to excavate my life from my surroundings. Still, there are some areas that can be easily corrected. In keeping with the theme, here’s my starting point:

* More out than in: yarn – use more of my stash than what I bring in; clothes – purge 50% of my clothing, and then treat any new purchase as a replacement of something I’ve retained, so the old item will be removed (donated or trashed)

* Collect and organize: music (so much sheet music EVERYWHERE!), books and magazines, knitting and sewing supplies (except yarn)

* More in than out – I’m finally improving my credit score, so that’s a step in the right direction. But I will be more vigilant about my spending habits to reduce my debt and increase my savings. The biggest challenge here is the upcoming expenses to make some home repairs. The best-case scenario is that my current savings will be reduced, while the worst case is more debt.

I have some vacation time at the end of this month to work on a “current” snapshot and a set of goals and intermediate objectives to share. Stay tuned!
