Spring has sprung, or maybe not? YOP Week 40

Oof – we’re still dealing with a roller coaster of weather. Friday and Saturday were mostly gorgeous, but then rain came in and our temperatures dropped by almost 40 degrees (F). Still, we had quite a bit of good times this week.

Stitched or Still-in-Progress

I don’t have a final FO picture of my Swooping Scoop Top, though I did add the neckline insert to finish it off. I’ll work on getting a photo of that for next week. I was far more interested in cranking on my WIPs once I did the knitting on the tee!

The cardigan saw the most progress in my opinion, but tell me if you think otherwise! I finished the upper collar, then completed the upper back. By the time I went to bed on Sunday, I had just six more rows to go on the upper right front. (Spoiler: today I actually finished the upper right front AND worked up the upper left front and managed to join the whole body before calling it a night. That’s the reason I’m posting so late, as I was knitting in all my spare time.) This image shows that right front, including the full collar. I might need to add a crochet line at the shoulders to stabilize the fabric between stockinette back and lace front when this is completed.

I’ve also calculated that I’ll likely need about 120 rows in the body before starting on the lower ribbing. Then, because I’m working from a cone, I think I’ll cake up the remaining yarn and split it so I can knit the sleeves simultaneously. It would be fabulous if I could have this done by Pentecost (May 23/24)! The lace pattern is locked in to my memory now, so it’s certainly possible. Spreadsheet time!

Next up, the shawl is coming together nicely. I’ve got a few more garter ridges to go before I start the next section. This one uses colors one, two and three (of six).

Pattern: Sugar Pop by Lisa K. Ross; yarn: Leading Men Fiber Arts Show Stopper in Darkest Hour (black) and Bring May Flowers Gradient set on US4 (3.5mm) needles

Lastly, the sock is now past the heel turn. I did most of the instep knitting on Friday evening – keep reading for more about that!

Cast-on Conversations

I don’t have anything new to share just yet, but I’m looking at my queue to find something. I’m also planning to knit a hat for the biggest donor to my Knit For Food campaign! So far the winner is very obvious, as they contributed half of my goal!

Football Frenzy

I mentioned the Columbus Aviators in my rambling last week, but now this is worthy of the frenzy segment. Friday night was the inaugural opening game for our new UFL team. The outcome of the game isn’t what we would like, but we were playing the 2025 champions, and that team is one of the only ones in the league to retain their coaching staff and most of their roster. In contrast, we have a first-time head coach and a team that’s only been playing together for about six weeks.

As a season ticket holder, I was curious to see who my seat neighbors would be. I’m also very glad that I chose a seat in the front row of the section since no one can stand up in front of me to block my view – this is why I got so much knitting done on that sock! 😉

It turns out there’s a larger group of folks to my right who bought a block of seats for the season, and my immediate neighbor (whose name I don’t yet know, lol) is quite the outgoing personality! As a result, parts of me ended up in both the local paper and on the national telecast! The caption in the paper is inaccurate, but that speaks to the sad level of “journalism” these days. I’m not overly concerned – a friend from Arizona was the one who found the picture.

Yep, that’s me, focusing on my knitting in the lower right

There are only four games a week throughout the season, and we have five home games – I’ll be back in the stands in a couple weeks. Perhaps I’ll be working on the second sock of this pair – socks are the best choice given the limitation on bag size in the stadium.

Grandson Glimpses

We celebrated Easter fun with the munchkin on Saturday, and it’s good that we did! There was no rain most of the day, and it was nice and warm. Easter Sunday was pretty much the opposite. We started off with an Easter Egg Hunt in my front yard, with the toddler and his teen sister rounding up about 45 eggs containing either jelly beans or coins. It took a couple eggs before he understood to just collect the eggs and we’d open them inside, lol.

He was more aware of what was happening than last year, and he alternately exclaimed “oh!” or “wow!” He usually called out a color as well, though he’s not always accurate there, hee hee.

Later in the day, we headed up to the Columbus Zoo for our third visit to “Eggs, Paws & Claws” in four years. Sadly, the giant blow-up duck was not there this year. But the weather was gorgeous, so after we visited with the Easter Bunny, we got to see a number of animals throughout the park.

He has eaten most of his jelly beans already, but a photo of him with the Easter Bunny is on the wall to remind him of the fun he had. Next year will be here before we know it!

Movie Moments

I’m still processing this one – on Saturday evening, I went to see A Great Awakening, a new movie about the relationship between Benjamin Franklin and George Whitefield, an English preacher. It’s based on a true story about their relationship, but it’s a dramatization, not a documentary. Some very impactful quotes though – unfortunately IMdB doesn’t have them yet.

It’s late and I’m tired, so I’ll sign off until next week.

Knit on. 🧶

What a special Easter. Loving your bright red top. What a pretty lace panel in your shawl. Hope you enjoy your season tickets. I would knit socks when I had season tickets to Cincinnati’s MLS soccer team.
