Kninja Knitter

In looking back at my history of posts, I realized that I forgot why I created this blog. The topics have varied, and obviously the frequency has been random and scarce. How much of this is about a fantasy image of myself as a blogger/writer?

Truthfully, my mental picture when I started this was modeled after the Yarn Harlot, a writer who turned blog posts into books. Gosh, that idea sounds so appealing. But the reality is I’m not a consistent “quipper” who can write pithy posts regularly.

No, I wanted a place to share details about my various knitting projects! I’ve completed some impressive pieces over the years, along with a variety of workhorse items (sock drawer, anyone?). Except for the Terrible Mojo Draught of ‘22, I’m a prolific knitter with multiple projects on the needles at once.

It’s time for me to get back to my plan of sharing my knitting work with the world. These things are occasionally shared on Instagram, though WIPs are not shared frequently. And with upcoming travel plans on my calendar, some knitting on-the-go posts might be in order.

For context, I have knit some detailed blankets as gifts. For my son’s 25th birthday, he received a double knit blanket featuring Game of Thrones logos.

And before that, I knit a blanket for my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary, based on the design of (IIRC) the North Rose Window in the Notre Dame Cathedral.

In that spirit, I’m currently working on an afghan that is a map of the United States. I’d had the pattern queued for over a decade. Being a perfectionist, I was hesitant to start without the “perfect” yarn collection. This year, I’m participating in a challenge to knit up more yarn than I bring in. This was the perfect impetus to get me crafting with the multitude of acrylic yarns in my stash, since I will never use them for 75% or more of my projects.

As of #MarkItMonday this week, the blanket is 60% complete.
