The year is rapidly coming to an end, so my deadline knitting is becoming a tad frenetic, lol. At least I’ve had some solid pockets of time to work. A couple weeks ago, I went to the GalaxyCon event in Columbus. I attended a number of outstanding Q&A sessions, mostly with Star Trek actors, and I had pre-paid for two photo ops with celebrities I admire. A bonus of such photo ops is the chance to get a fun FO picture of a project I made.
Over the summer, I knit a Jessica Jones cowl with specific plans for this photo, lol. Charlie Cox (*Daredevil*) was one of the earliest guests announced. I saw another person in line with a similar cowl, but mine was knit in Cascade Heritage Silk, so it’s amazingly soft and shiny. I’ll be wearing it in cold weather, definitely!

My other celebrity meeting was with Colin O’Donoghue, best known as Hook in the ABC series *Once Upon a Time*. For this picture, I opted for my Bling Tank, a Laura Nelkin design I struggled with photographing. I love the yarn (Leading Men Fiber Arts’ Showstopper in the Marauder colorway). Of course, it’s December, so I couldn’t just walk around in a tank top!

And during the week following the convention, I took a quick trip to The Big Easy for a toe-dipping introduction to the city. I’m now up to 41 U.S. states visited in my lifetime… making plans to visit a few more. While the trip was only for three days, I spent a good amount of time knitting. Flights and airport waiting provided a good chunk of that. A lot of my public knitting was done on my first sock of the December edition of the Desert Vista Dyeworks “sock club.” The night I arrived, I walked down the street for a yummy dinner…

On my last day, I walked down a different street to get to Cafe Du Monde for the traditional beignets and a cafe au lait.

The other project I invested a good amount of time on during my trip was the Waymaker cowl, part of a knit along challenge in the Down Cellar Studio Pigskin Party. With the challenge, I need to finish the cowl by the end of the month. The design calls for DK weight yarn, but I don’t have two yarns I considered suitable. So I opted to hold fingering weight yarn doubled. And these two yarns are very special to me. They were part of a prize from a friend of mine who no longer dyes yarn. The variegated colorway was a custom design as I gave her the colors to combine. I think she did an amazing job! Because of the yardage requirements, I modified the stripe pattern, reversing the main and contrast colors when I reached the midpoint of the cowl.

I’m continuing to make progress on the USA afghan, though progress has slowed. I couldn’t travel with it, and when I’m home I’m often opting for the smaller items. But I’m getting there!

Stay tuned for more updates… I cast on a test knit hat, and I still have some socks to finish. I’m thinking my grandson’s sweater might not be done for Christmas, so it will probably be a birthday present. So much to do…
Knit on.
