Quitting ≠ Failure

This week I had a lot going on, though no movie theater visits. I did, however, decide not to continue working on the Sock Madness qualifier socks. I made it close to the heel turn on the sock I started, and I found it’s too small for my foot. Then I contemplated the overall design and realized that it doesn’t suit me.

I was making it “work” so I could finish the project and “earn” the free patterns that will follow. But the reality is that I don’t wear non-vanilla socks anymore. I have a number of cabled pairs, but they don’t make it to my feet. I’m much more attracted to colorful stockinette socks, whether stripes or variegated or speckled colors.

Life is too short to spend time on things that don’t bring you joy (sadly, excluding the required adulting). And while knitting in general brings me joy, I also revel in beautiful finished objects. While I could crank out the pair of socks and give them away, the truth is I found another knitting project that makes me significantly happier as I knit it.

I signed on to complete a test knit shawl for Paper Daisy Creations. Her design aesthetic is gorgeous, and I love her as a person, too. (Thanks to the Into the Wool Fiber Retreat, I met her IRL some years back.) plus, this pattern requires a lot less mental energy than those socks. Once I thought about it, the decision was easy to make. The sock will be frogged and that yarn will be repurposed soon enough. In fact, the purple yarn will probably end up in this shawl.

The test knit can’t be shared publicly yet, so my photo payment for this post features my adorable grandson. I will share a photo next week of the progress I did make on the sock, for posterity.

Grandma is a #MarvelGirl so these pajamas made me very happy 😄

This little guy stayed with me last night, as he usually does on Friday nights. I can’t knit when he visits, but I’m okay with that trade-off.

Knit on. 🧶
