First Monday of April, No Fooling!

I’m less than two weeks away from my vacation and I’m getting VERY excited! Last week I reached out to my boss and another colleague who are both based in Dublin, and we arranged to meet for dinner. The colleague has “promised” me many a pint over the years, so I shall be collecting, though on a small scale, lol.

Yesterday I shared some fun photos and details about our zoo trip on Saturday. You can read about that here. Any adventure with the munchkin is a delight, but as a big fan of the Columbus Zoo (and zoos in general), it was special to me.

With another #MarkItMonday upon us, I have two FOs and a WIP to share from last week. On Friday I managed to bind off the test knit shawl – I shared last week that the pattern, Coloring Lines, had been released with a discount code that was open for only a couple days.

Coloring Lines by Paper Daisy Creations in a variety of yarns. MC is Yummy Sparkle by Arkansas Yarn Company in Sterling; CC selections include Unwind Yarn Company’s Journey Sock base in a variety of colors. On US4 (3.5mm) needles, smaller than the pattern calls for.

I also finished my Desert Vista Dyeworks socks just in time! Seriously, I bound off the second sock at 10:30pm on the 31st! I had a lot going on, so I didn’t focus on this project very much. I did manage to get most of the gusset increases, heel turn and heel flap done during my hair appointment on Saturday. I got a perm, relatively soon after my last one. Apparently now that my hair is really growing now, I may need perms more frequently than I used to. C’est la vie!

The last project I worked on during the week was a hat pattern I had started as part of Laura Nelkin’s Q1 KAL challenge. I didn’t finish it by the deadline, so it may go into timeout for a bit.

A new week, a new month AND a new quarter starts today. Woot! I’ve selected my yarn for this month’s DVD socks, and now I can decide what projects I will take with me on my trip. It might be a mix of existing WIPs and new cast-ons. Stay tuned to find out!

I also want to take some time to reflect on what I’ve accomplished this past quarter. But that’s not happening today. I have too much to do and my evening is equally busy.

Knit on. 🧶

Lovely shawl and pretty socks. My husband and I went to the Columbus Zoo many years ago and it was so beautiful and fun to visit.

Many years ago? Then you should visit again! They’re currently re-doing the North America section, but the Polar Frontier and Heart of Africa (summer only) are outstanding. I finally got to see the sea lions last year after not getting over there for several years.

Thank you for the compliments. ☺️

What a wonderful trip. I am so jealous. Lordy, it’s probably been 35+ years since I visited Ireland. Can’t wait to hear all about it. The March socks look great. I love your sock knitting plan. I too love the zoo. How amazing that Ohio has great zoos in Columbus and Cincinnati. I watched a documentary on Jack Hanna. So sad he has dementia.

I think you mentioned your trip includes going to Edinburgh, that has a great zoo. It’s on a hillside so can be quite the workout getting round the whole thing but it’s a lovely day out and a pretty simple bus ride from Princes Street towards Corstophine would be a way to get there cheaply. Depends how much time you have in your itinerary. The shawl is absolutely gorgeous. Remember to pack for all weather, we have less defined seasons and temps can change dramatically day to day.

Thank you! I don’t know if I will have time, but I’ll add that to my options list! I tend to be efficient in my personal travel choices, though terrain variances can mess with my timeline. I do love visiting zoos when I travel (Wellington, NZ – I want to go back!), so it’d be great to get in one or two on this trip if I can.
