Busy, Busy, Busy!

I had a lot going on this past week. And despite having a day off work on Monday, I wasn’t able to put my #MarkItMonday post together. Highlights of the week included our final (local) concert of the season for the Gahanna Community Chorus, held in downtown Columbus for an appreciative audience numbering around 450 people. It was an amazing experience, and I’m more than a little sad that I won’t be joining our group as they take this show on tour in New York City later this week.

I had another lovely evening with my grandson on Friday. He cracks me up with his antics. When I launch Disney+ on the television, he starts singing the Bluey theme song. And from another room, he heard Miss Rachel say “Hello, friend!” and he started waving hello before immediately walking into the living room to watch her. He’s blowing kisses and giving hugs now, which is super sweet.

On the movie scene, I saw Back to Black, the biopic about Amy Winehouse. Watching the movie, I enjoyed seeing a few spots in London that I had scene on my trip. I was most surprised to realize how little I knew about her. I was not familiar with her music, and I didn’t even know when she had been popular. I guess my listening taste was focused on a different genre at that point in time.

As for my knitting, I focused on the same three projects as the previous week. I finished the socks, my second of two yarns from London.

(Modified) The Austin Socks by Crazy Sock Lady Designs using Gusto Wool Echoes in the super-descriptive colorway 1512 on US1 (2.25mm) needles

These were my third entry in the Crazy Sock Lady’s Summer Sock Camp KAL, and earned me a loss of 85 grams in the Knitters Brewing Company Net Loss challenge. I have a long way to go to get to a loss position, but every completed project helps!

Next up is my June project in the Camp Loopy challenge from The Loopy Ewe. Once I finished the ribbing on these leg warmers, the pattern became more intriguing. I still can’t work on them at the movie theater because of the cable crosses, but I have watched movies at home while working on them. I’m fascinated with how the colors are more saturated on one leg than the other, and I’m hoping that the trend will reverse as I continue.

Squishy, Stripey Legwarmers by Kathryn Drummond in Dream in Color Smooshy with Cashmere in the Burr colorway (MC) and Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok Light in Cast Iron (CC) on US1.5 (2.5mm) and US2 (2.75mm) needles

And the final project is the sweater. My progress keeper is on the back side of the piece, so not visible. But I managed six more rounds , including attaching the sleeves and starting the yoke, including the beads. And now there are decreases to work as I continue up the yoke.

Bling T (long sleeve version) by Laura Nelkin using Leading Men Fiber Arts Show Stopper in Don’t Fear the Reaper on US4 (3.5mm) needles

My last piece of busyness from the week was spending time at church. I sang for three Masses again, playing guitar for two of them (again), though this time over three days. With the start of summer break for a couple of our Saturday groups, I become part of a vocal duo on occasion. This weekend was one of those occasions. Then on Sunday I played and sang with my “usual” choir. For the next couple weeks I’ll be directing the group as our director goes on vacation with her family. Then on Monday, I sang for a funeral, which was why I had the day off. The father-in-law of a dear friend (and fellow guitarist) passed away the previous weekend. Because of her history with my “usual” choir, our parish musical director invited me to sing. It was an honor to pay respects to the 98-year-old man who I’ve seen in church nearly every week since joining the parish eighteen years ago, celebrating his well-lived life and legacy.

I still need to wind up my yarn for this month’s Desert Vista Dyeworks project. Today may be the day, now that I have no more socks on the needles! Look for more details next week!

Knit on. 🧶

I love your rainbow socks and it’s pattern. I don’t know if I’ve experienced the difference in saturation like that before (except my recent purple Abydos yarn issue but that was gifted yarn so I never saw the original skeins – or tags for that matter). Were they from the same skein or two different skeins? Love your 2atatime knitting. I’ll be doing that shortly because – lace pattern. If I’m going to make a mistake, let’s do it to both. Singing in front of 450 people!!! I’d faint.

I’m working from a single skein which is why it’s perplexing for me! The halfway point in the skein is where the second one started, so I’m hoping that the difference becomes less noticeable as I continue. My goal is to use the entire skein due to the yardage requirement for the KAL (plus they’re cool!). And yes, 2AAT works well here. Since the only difference is the cable cross which happens once every ten rounds, it’s a pretty easy knit. I generally don’t have issues with knitting single socks, but that super-long pair I made recently had significantly different gauges at the start. That prompted me to re-consider 2AAT again.

It’s not like I was singing a solo, lol. Though I have sung solos before large audiences. I’ve been into theater since I was a kid, and I’ve sung in church since I was a teenager. But for our concert, I was just one of about 90 people singing. My one “shining’ moment was when I was one of two women singing a high A in one song. 😆 I will share the video once we have it!

Ooh very pretty rainbow socks. I haven’t used any of her patterns but this one is pretty but not too busy. I haven’t seen the issue with the colour saturation either, it may just look like one sock has had a few more washes than the other. I have a lot of pairs that’s happened to 🤣
