Year of Projects – Week 5

One month is in the books for the Year of Projects, so here’s the latest…

I’m glad I started and finished three projects within the month!

Stitched or Still-in-Progress

I finished two projects this week. Behold!

Laurelie by Lisa Hannes using Leading Men Fiber Arts Spotlight (BFL/Nylon) in Darkest Hour and Drama Queen on US4 (3.5mm) and US5 (3.75mm) needles

Camp Loopy, hosted by The Loopy Ewe, is a great challenge, pushing me to hit my stitch targets all month long. This shawl used 755 yards of this yummy yarn. August will be the biggest, as I need to use 800+ yards to meet the challenge.

SHaGs pattern by Sarah Jordan using Desert Vista Dyeworks Viso in the Arizona Landscape colorway on US1 (2.25mm) needles

The eighth month garnered another pair of socks in the Tenth Annual Desert Vista Dyeworks Monthly Socity “Club.” Sadly, this progress keeper from AdoreKnit broke. 😢

Waah! Progress keeper down!

I made it past the halfway mark on my sweater and started the armscye decreases on the front.

Byrne Clan Aran pullover by Clanarans using Aran Handknitting Wool from Blarney Woolen Mills in the Natural colorway on US4 (3.5mm)/US5 (3.75mm)/US6 (4.0mm) needles

And the last WIP with attention this week is the shortie sock. Getting closer to the toe!

Nugget Peds by Laura Nelkin using Knit Picks Felici in the Game Over colorway on US1 (2.25mm) needles

Cast On Conversations

Wrapping my two July projects means two new cast-ons for August!

Butterfly|Papillon by MarinJa Knits using Urth Uneek Fingering in the 3007 colorway and Cascade Yarns Heritage Sock in Black on US4 (3.5mm) needles

Short rows a-plenty lets the pattern shine in this yarn, and I always enjoy using black as the contrast color to resemble stained glass.

Instant Coffee Socks by Dami M. Almon using Desert Vista Dyeworks DK in the Desert in Bloom colorway (including mini) on US3 (3.25mm)

I test knit this pattern for the designer as part of the book Coffee with C.C. (and Dami Too) ~ Another 7 Pattern Caffeine Inspired Knitting Collection. The DK weight yarn helps the pattern knit up super fast!

Soundscape Sessions

I’m very excited to have launched my podcast this week, too! I’m sketching out the outline for my first full episode, but the pilot introduction is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and iHeart! If you don’t find Kninja Knitter on your podcast source, let me know what your source is!

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 14th year, my first. If you would like to find out more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, please check it out; it’s a very welcoming group!

Knit on. 🧶

OMG – the Butterfly shawl is magnificent!!! Soo beautiful! All your projects are just gorgeous. The Aran sweater is fantastic. Love the lace panel and the colorwork panels of the Laurelie. That is sad about the broken progress keeper. On the other hand, it’s an excuse to buy more fun progress keepers.

The shawl is gorgeous and who doesn’t love striped socks. Keep them coming 😀 I use the app Pocket Casts on Android and it isn’t showing yours when I search. It brings up Knitpicks one and some other knitting ones. I stopped using Spotify once Armchair Expert stopped being exclusively on there because it keeps starting to play podcasts I’m not interested in instead of next episodes. Will you be sharing links here still?

Thank you! I have submitted my podcast to Pocket Casts, so hopefully it will be available there soon (up to a week, per my info). There are a number of providers to share with, but I will wait until I have a few episodes in place before widening my scope; but I definitely want to make it available to folks who already follow my blog.

And yes, I will continue to share episode links here – I will be posting my full show notes here for each episode.

I’m excited to see your progress in the Butterfly Papillion. It’s been on my radar for years but I’ve yet to take the plunge. How is knitting with black as the contrast yarn going?

Yeah, it’s been in my favorites for ages! I love using black as the contrast a LOT! It’s my go-to against bright colors, as it reminds me of stained glass. And since there are no short rows in the black, it’s super easy!
