Year of Projects – Week 8

I still don’t understand how it’s the end of August already! Time has clearly sped up, lol. At least I have some knitting progress to show for it since I’ve spent a lot of time working on my projects. I even have a finished object to share, thanks to an addictive pattern. So let’s jump in…

Stitched or Still-in-Progress

I completed my Camp Loopy project for August this weekend, and I was able to block it in one day thanks to the summer heat. My goal this month was 800+ yards, and I ended up using 957 yards. There’s a fair amount of the colorful yarn, so keep an eye out for its appearance in another project soon.

I’m eager to finish up the Aran sweater ahead of the Pigskin Party in September, and I’m still on track to make the deadline. The sleeves are just over half complete, and the overall knitting is 80% done based on my revised estimate of the total sleeve length. The first two skeins of yarn are nearly spent, and today I caked up the next two skeins. Unless my estimate is off, I’ll have a couple skeins left from the package I bought. That means a hat and maybe mittens to go with the sweater! I’ll have some time to mull over the design, as I could pull some of the stitch patterns from the sweater.

And the last WIP I’ve shared that saw some attention this week was the beaded mitts. The first one, if you recall, I restarted after the ribbing got messed up at the movie theater. The first one is finished, and I cast on its mate. I will probably work on this some more tonight, but I like to grab progress photos in natural light.

Cast On Conversations

With no socks-in-progress this week, I needed another small project to work on that didn’t need attention (and chart reference). One of the Ravelry groups I’m in hosts a weekly challenge during the NFL season. Each participant commits to knit a dishcloth (usually cotton) to send to a winner, so I’m gearing up by making smaller ones. The pattern I’m working with has three different designs. I’ve knit the first design this week and cast on the next. Again, I may work on it more tonight before setting my #MarkItMonday marker.

The Pigskin Party hosted by Down Cellar Studio kicks off with the NFL season on September 5th. I’ll be casting on a couple projects that day, including a test knit shawl pattern and my September DVD socks. Because the challenge rewards bonus points for using sponsor patterns, yarns and notions, I’m building my strategy to maximize said points! More on that to come!

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 14th year, my first. If you would like to find out more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, please check it out; it’s a very welcoming group!

Wow, you are busy with your crafting. Your butterfly shawl is sooo beautiful!! Love your beaded mitts. Really cute. What a wonderful gift. Beading is going to have to be a future goal. Your Aran sweater is gorgeous.

Thanks! I’ve done a fair amount of beading over the years, mostly on shawls. Laura Nelkin has made a set of videos recently about different methods for placing them. And her kits usually come with something to help.

Thebshawl turned out fantastic. All those colors really make it pop. Love the beaded mitts. They will make winter a little more joyful. Your pigskin group sounds like fun. The dishcloths are a great gift for the winner too.

The shawl looks beautiful, I wonder how you’ll wear it though, any chance of a photo of it being worn? It’s so pretty I’d be tempted to hang it on the wall as a decoration. The beaded mitt is very pretty too, I’ve mostly seen shawls with beading but I think the mitts work really well with it.

I will get a picture of the shawl when I wear it, yes. I’ll share here when I do. It’s well suited to drape over the shoulders.

Laura loves beads and has designed numerous accessories to decorate with them. Remember the bag I made last month? 😊 In January I made an eyeglass cord that is mostly beads, too.

Butterfly Papillon turned out so well. I love it. I may have to shamelessly copy you. I love the center cable on the sweater. I don’t think I’ve seen that one before. It’s really interesting.

Thanks! Copy away!! The center motif is half-diamonds.
