Year of Projects – week 17 – plus exciting news!

Monday is back again. I would have preferred a longer weekend, but I had an enjoyable weekend and some great news to share. So I’ll just jump in…

Stitched or Still-in-Progress

I have one FO this week, and it’s a small one. But as you’ll see later, I’ve been busy!

2024 Square – pattern by Daisy and Storm, yarn: Lily Sugar’n Cream Solids on US 7 (4.5mm) needles

On my sweater project, I completed the first section of the back and started on the right front. I haven’t read ahead much because I’m using a kC Design (someone with Create2Thrive did the set-up so I could make one or two selections, such as size, and the project is created automatically in knitCompanion). I will review the pattern in greater detail soon so I have a better understanding of the construction.

Citadel sweater – pattern by Joji Locatelli; using Blarney Woolen Mills Donegal Tweed Handknitting Wool in Moss on US 6 (4.0mm) needles

My DVD socks for the month are almost done. I have about twenty rounds of stockinette plus the ribbing before I bind off.

SHaGS – pattern by Sarah Jordan, yarn: Desert Vista Dyeworks Viso in colorway Chang’e Mei Moon Goddess on US1 (2.25mm)

The projects I started last week saw a little bit of attention. I got through the hip increases on the shorts, so now I’ve added the second color. I’m still undecided as to whether I will have multi-round stripes or, at some point, start a helical stripe before I get to the legs.

Twisted Tea Shorts by Briana Luppino, yarn: Knit Picks Hawthorne Fingering Speckle in the Specimen colorway, Cloudborn Fibers Merino Superwash Sock Twist in Scarlet and Shaela Heather; knit on US4 (3.5mm) and US5 (3.75mm) needles

And the blanket saw very little love, and I’m strongly considering frogging it to change the project. There are so many patterns out there for Advent calendar sets…

Cast-on Conversations

I haven’t started anything yet, but there are a couple projects on the horizon. First, I will be casting on the November socks for the Tenth Annual Desert Vista Dyeworks Monthly Sock Club. That will probably happen on Friday ahead of a movie night.

And second, I signed up for another test knit project for Paper Daisy Creations. She secured a coupon code for us to get one of the kits that the pattern was designed to use. While I prefer to work from stash, the kits were just too beautiful to ignore. I bought this set:

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 14th year, my first. If you would like to find out more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, please check it out; it’s a very welcoming group!

Grandson Glimpses

While my son’s family has relocated to South Carolina, my grandson’s half-sister has to come back periodically to visit her dad. That means my grandson is coming back regularly, too. Last week, their mama opted to come up early, so I had two overnight visits! On the first night, I introduced him to Spike the Hedgehog, a learning toy I bought right after they moved. Zayne spent two hours playing with it, and then he wasn’t happy when I took the toy away so he could wind down for bed. He got over it and fell asleep rather quickly; then he wasn’t happy back to playing with it the next morning.

Spike is a toy from Learning Resources (affiliate link to Amazon) that has twelve pegs in four colors; Z demonstrated that he knows numbers 1-10, though his favorites are one and two, lol.

On Friday, we ventured to the Columbus Zoo , primarily to enjoy the Boo at the Zoo activities. Zayne wore his new Bluey costume, and he even wore the hood for a little while (he’s not a fan of headwear).

Environmental Evolution

The big surprise from the past week is that my new bathtub has arrived, well ahead of schedule! It’s scheduled to be installed this week, so I’m very excited about that! Also, the vanity that I ordered for this bathroom has been delivered. I still need to pick my new faucet and locate someone to install both (and remove the old one), but I have a couple leads on that front.

I still haven’t taken a picture of the front yard yet, after the two trees were removed. And my neighbor also cleaned up the foliage at the front of the house. I wanted to get some more greenery removed at the side of the house, too, but I haven’t taken the time to do that.

The decluttering process continues as well. And with the bathroom work coming up, I have plans to rearrange the living room furniture so that the installation team can have the easiest time possible as well as minimizing the risk of damage to things like my television, lol. I took time over the weekend to declutter (or partially, anyway) the base cabinet in my hutch. I’m deciding what will ultimately “live” there, as it had become a dumping ground. I have a significant amount of time available next weekend to spend on decluttering (outside of watching Ohio State play at Penn State #GoBucks), so there should be photos to share soon!

Financial Finesse

Not a lot of finesse here, but I am pleased to say that I have paid off another loan. Of course, the bathtub replacement is a significantly larger expense, but I’ll be able to pay it off much sooner (and cheaper) than the original loan terms state. Before my next podcast, I’ll put together a summary of my current financial status and see what I can share.

Knit on. 🧶

Rainbow minis!!! I love them. Can’t wait to see what they get knit up as. Your Citadel looks great. Love the yarn. I’m still amazed you can get a pair of socks knit every month!!! How wonderful you can plan on regular visits up here in Ohio with your grandson. Congrats on all the progress on your bathroom.

Thank you! I used to compete in sock knitting competitions, and I won one round in one year. I could knit a pair of socks in about 24 hours, and that was with some kind of stitch pattern. Once the event became well known and the Scandinavian knitters joined in, I was toast and dropped out of competition.

The vanilla socks I generally make for the DVD challenge are so easy, I could knit 2-3 pairs in a month if I chose to. And sometimes I will cast on a second pair to have movie knitting if my primary pair is at or near the gusset.

But I like variety in my projects, so I don’t usually have more than two pairs on the needles.

Oh what pretty yarn! Please keep us posted on your November sock cast on. Great news about extra time with your grandson. My daughter also hated anything on her head. She would pull hair bows and hats off to be tossed with wild glee! As an adult she still never wears a hat!

Thank you. 😊 Have you ever asked your daughter why she doesn’t like wearing hats? I’m curious… 🧐

That’s great you got some bonus time with your grandson. He looks very cute in his outfit. The rainbow minis look lovely and I’m sure will be something amazing. The socks aren’t my colours but I can still appreciate the speed in which you whip them out.
