Being back at home means I have all my things readily available and accessible, and I can work on my projects in comfortable surroundings. At my son’s house, there are no chairs (other than his office chair). There is one couch in the living room, but it’s shared with the dog (and its fur cast-offs) along with everyone else in the house. So I did most of my knitting in my bedroom which was not especially comfortable.
I still managed to knit periodically. I did no knitting at all on Saturday though. My drive home took ten hours, and my brain was so fried when I got home, I did as little as possible! Sunday was split between knitting and housework, now that I could finally get started on my plans.
Stitched or Still-in-Progress
No finished objects yet, but I’m getting closer to one! My “back-up” sock project from Q4 last year finally has a heel, so I’m ready for some movie knitting.

I did make some progress on the test knit I can’t share for a few more weeks, too. But I’m particularly pleased with my latest afghan project. I had started this on New Year’s Day, and I’ve now established the working width (19 repeats). That was based on the amount of yarn I had of my first colorway. Going forward it could be interesting!

I started with the Brace Yourself colorway (November 2024 socks), and now I’ve introduced Pacific Sunset (April 2019 socks). I’m not thrilled with how the edge looks, binding off and casting on stitches, so it’s quite possible I will add a neutral border – probably crocheted – to hide it. And since the row joins swap sides concerning visibility, a contrast slip-stitch line could be added there as well. But I’ll wait until the rows are completed before deciding on that.
Cast-on Conversations
While I need to focus on the test knit for a couple more weeks, and I want to make steady progress on the blanket, I have another cable knit sweater I’m itching to cast on! I need to at least knit the gauge swatch to start since this is a new-to-me yarn. The biggest challenge is that the yarn is black.
I haven’t had the chance yet to review my YOP plans from July, so that will happen later this week. The drive home was terribly long, and I haven’t had the bandwidth for dealing with details.
This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 14th year, my first. If you would like to find out more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, please check it out; it’s a very welcoming group!
Environment Evolution
Being home, as I said, means I can get cracking on the work I’ve been planning for two weeks. I need to confirm this, but it does appear that the problem with my basement floor drain has been resolved! It would be outstanding if I don’t have to shell out more money to fix that. The last couple times I’ve done laundry, I noticed that the floor wasn’t wet like it used to be. And yesterday, I double checked and it wasn’t even damp. I’ll confirm the next time I do a load.
This Saturday is the next All-Day Declutter event with the Take Your House Back group, but I will likely not have any availability due to other commitments. But the target areas for this session are my January focus, so I’m planning to listen to the replays on the following Saturday. It’s helpful to listen while I work, and that’s how I managed a chunk of the decluttering so far.
Exploits in Exercise
My own fitness journey stalled a bit in December. I had a nasty cold that made it very difficult to exert myself. And when I trekked down to South Carolina, I had planned to take a few classes at the Myrtle Beach OrangeTheory studio, but their schedule was difficult to work with. The one Saturday class I scheduled I had to cancel in order to decorate the birthday cake. It’s been almost six weeks since my last class. 😕
OrangeTheory is starting their annual transformation challenge today, so I’m hoping that my recent inactivity can help me up my improvement over the next two months, lol. My initial scan results , though, are nowhere to be found… I did the InBody on Sunday, but I haven’t received an email with the results, nor were they added to my app. Waiting for guidance from the studio.
This segment also includes sports, and the past month has been pretty exciting for this Ohio State football fan! After three stellar performances through the playoffs, they will be competing for the CFP national championship title a week from today. I’m ecstatic for the team, given all they’ve endured to get here. I’ve also enjoyed watching reaction videos on YouTube, lol. One more game remains for this special Buckeyes football team…
And now I can start the outline for my next podcast episode FINALLY!
Knit on. 🧶
