High Seas Adventure – Day 4

Today has been interesting, as has all of our sailing experiences for that matter. When we tried to leave Buenos Aires, we were delayed due to a ship blocking traffic. Yesterday, we were late leaving Montevideo because a military ship was in port with Princess Leonor of Spain on board. According to a quick Google search, “the heir to the Spanish throne…[is]…a midshipman in the Spanish Navy.”

Travel Tales

Anyway, today our course had to be adjusted due to a medical emergency onboard. The ship rerouted to just off the coast of Mar del Plata, Argentina, where the Argentinian Coast Guard helped to secure everything so the patient could be brought ashore to be treated. What is wild to me is that every cruise I’ve been on that was seven or more days long included a medical emergency.

Mar del Plata, Argentina, as seen while we waited for the tender to return

Once the tender that carried the patient and medical team ashore returned to the ship, we’ve been ahead-full (sounds right, doesn’t it?) to make up for the adjustments. We have another Sea Day before we’re expecting to arrive at Port Stanley. I’m hoping they’re racing today so that we can ease up tomorrow. It would not be fun if we keep steaming ahead like this for another full day – individual navigation is very complicated under these conditions, and I didn’t even indulge in any alcohol!

This notification on my iPhone really made me laugh!

Since we spent the whole day on the ship, I didn’t take many photos. I did grab this pic in the Lido Pool area, near the shallow end. I’m not sure if they’ve recreated a scene from Happy Feet or just used the characters as inspiration. But it’s fun either way.

Gloria (left) and Mumble (center) are pretty obvious. Behind Mumble over his left shoulder is Memphis (Norma Jean’s beak is peeking out from behind Mumble’s head); and I think it’s Noah the Elder on the lower right.

I had my first meal in the dining room this evening, as our group dined together tonight. It was also the first dressy evening – I had a photo taken with Laura, so I’ll share that when the digital images are available.

But hey, there are food photos!

After dinner, I stopped in my stateroom before going to Knit Night, and I was thrilled to receive my first towel origami animal! I’m fairly confident it’s a turtle… what do you think?

Turtle? Yes or no?

Tomorrow I’m getting a massage before my knitting session, and I’ve made a reservation at the Pinnacle Grill for a steak dinner. And there’ll be plenty of knitting throughout the day.

Stitched or Still-in-Progress

Speaking of knitting, I put the first sock on a blocker to take a half-finished photo. I’m making the legs longer than usual. You’ll get another update on Monday.

Maybe they have the penguins out to get you all practicing spotting them as for sure you’ll see them on the Falklands. I thought it looked like a squished bird, so Turtle sounds better.

I found the book that shows all their animal creations and confirmed it’s a turtle. 😁 And I don’t think (from what I’ve heard) that we’ll have any trouble spotting the penguins. 😉
