Today was the day I’ve been waiting for on this trip! But first, let’s talk knitting. I did confirm with Laura that I can share photos of the designs we’re working with for the cruise. So I’ll start with my usual Monday update.
Stitched or Still-in-Progress
First, an apology – I have a Finished Object, but I haven’t taken an FO photo of it yet. I’ll work on that tomorrow. Moving on, I have familiar projects to share. Given my travel stretches, I’ve managed some good bits on the blanket. Wolverine is in the upper right. And that third strip is actually folded over a bit. I had to snap progress pics in my cabin at a ridiculously early hour. Perhaps next week I can be more intentional.

And the second sock is moving along. This morning I was close to starting the gusset increases.

Cast-on Conversations
In addition to the project I started and finished last week, I began working on this cruise design from Laura Nelkin – it will be released at a later date, possibly during Cowltober. It’s called the Ceci Cowl and features two yarns from a Buenos Aires dyer, Huanaco Yarns. I grabbed a photo in the Lido Deck pool area since the lighting was pretty good there, but the project was a little awkward to capture here. Hopefully it’ll be easier as it grows.

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 14th year, my first. If you would like to find out more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, please check it out; it’s a very welcoming group!
Travel Tales
As I mentioned, today was the day I’ve been most anticipating on this trip. And I was not disappointed! A segment of our group went to the Bluff Cove Penguin Rookery when the ship finally arrived at the Falkland Islands. After transporting to shore in a tender ship, we took a shuttle bus ride to Bluff Cove, and there they were… Gentoo and King penguins abound, both adults and young ones. And they were very entertaining! Photo dump…

I bought yarn at the gift shop, along with a souvenir coaster and tote bag. Then I had a little time for a snack. Coffee (or tea) and a variety of sweet treats are generously offered to the tour-goers.

Our driver, Ali, returned us to town while giving us a drive-by intro to Port Stanley. Once she dropped us off, I hiked up the road to see some of the monuments before returning to the ship.

I’m sorry to end today’s post abruptly here, but I’m having issues following a contact lens problem which has my nose running severely. And we’ve got some rough seas jostling us a bit. So I’d like to unwind and get to sleep. We have another Sea Day tomorrow, so feel free to ask questions! I learned a lot about this nation of islands during my visit.
Knit on. 🧶
