South America Adventures – Day 7

I don’t have many pictures to show for today’s adventures. I made my first visit to the dining room for both breakfast and lunch, which was quite enjoyable. Being seated with complete strangers makes for interesting conversations. And in the morning, I had people asking about my blog and podcast! (I was wearing my logo sweatshirt which sparked the conversation.) At lunch, folks were more interested in hearing about the knitting group I was on board with.

Travel Tales

When I woke up today, I remembered it was Tuesday so I sent off some penguin photos to a colleague to include in the weekly meeting document for our full team. We (the team leadership) like to encourage others to share glimpses into their personal lives as it helps keep us connected. Then I headed to breakfast after stuffing my laundry in a bag for the cabin steward. Later in the day I grabbed a photo of our course.

Unfortunately, the captain announced while I was at lunch that our “sail by” of Cape Horn was cancelled for this evening because the seas were a bit too rough. The crew had been managing our course at a steady 11-12 knots (compared with the 21-22 knots as we raced to Port Stanley), and the Cape Horn course would require accelerating and still risk being late to our next port of call (Ushuaia) tomorrow morning. Given how foggy and rainy it’s been, there’s a good chance we wouldn’t have seen much anyway. One of my lunch companions told us about the past two times he’s been around Cape Horn, and the weather can really change up without notice, so it’s better to be safe.

I also went to the presentation this afternoon about Punta Arenas – that’s the only port where I don’t have an excursion booked. It was helpful to hear about what the area has to offer, and there’s a possibility that I’ll stay on the ship a fair amount that day. We’ll be in port around twelve hours, so I could still pop in to visit our first Chilean stop. I’d be most inclined to do so after lunch.

It was another dressy dinner this evening, but not a full group meal. I joined a couple that I’ve been chatting with throughout the past week. We had a lovely time. After dinner, I returned to my room to rest up for tomorrow, and I was greeted with another fine towel animal. I’m guessing it’s a rabbit, but I’ll check the book tomorrow to confirm!

Stitched or Still-in-Progress

I’ve made really good progress on my cruise cowl, and I shared a photo with my knitting besties.

Ceci Cowl – pattern by Laura Nelkin, yarn: Huanaco Yarns Merino de la Patagonia Single in Noche en la Quebro (violet) and Paso de Liquen (light grey) on US5 (3.75mm) needles and US4 (3.5mm)

I snapped this photo after a couple rounds on the smaller gauge needle. The cable is much shorter, so I don’t need to magic-loop the work in those sections. I have about 22 rounds left before I bind off (I completed another repeat section with the contrast color this evening.), and my goal here is to have it finished before Saturday. There’s a possibility of a full group photo when we’re cruising past a glacier then; I’d like to wear my cowl in the photo.

Knit on. 🧶

That looks like a wonderful trip. Your cowl is coming along nicely.
