Quick touch base – fundraising event tomorrow! (5 April 2025)

Hello, my fair readers! (I feel like Lady Whistledown writing that, lol IYKYK)

I am still working on the content for my next podcast episode, but I’ve realized that it won’t be ready to share for at least a couple days. And by then this message will be moot. So here’s a very quick update for you.

Tomorrow (5 April 2025) is the annual Knit For Food knit-a-thon event! This lovely endeavor was launched in 2021 after its founder, Laura Nelkin, learned about the unfortunate extent of hunger and food insecurity in this country. Much like some traditional school fundraisers, the idea is to spend time (twelve hours) knitting to raise awareness and money for charities that address these issues.

There are four different charities who benefit in this event: Feeding America, World Central Kitchen, No Kid Hungry, and Meals on Wheels. And all proceeds from the event are split evenly across the four organizations. This year’s goal is $379,011, exactly $1 more than was raised last year; and as of Friday afternoon, we’ve exceeded that number by 3%. Of course, the real goal is to put food where it’s needed, and the price tag for that is pretty high.

If you would like to help me in this fundraiser, please go to my page here and click the Donate button. On Saturday, I will be knitting a colorwork hat that Laura designed for the event; I’ll share photos on social media tomorrow and in my Mark It Monday post next week. One hint: I’m using one of the yarns I bought on my visit to Uruguay last month! Thanks to several generous friends, I’ve surpassed my personal goal, but these kinds of goals are meant to be exceeded!

The deadline for submitting contributions is 10PM ET on Saturday, so be aware of that! During our cruise, Laura commented that it would be amazing if she could send checks of $1,000 to each of the charities! That’s not an impossible feat given that we have over 24 hours to raise less than $6,000.

Since pictures capture attention more than flashy titles, here’s my “photo tax” for this post!
