Year of Projects Week 44 and a week of wins

I’m going to dive right into the knitting progress – my biggest update was on the one project I can’t share as it’s a secret test knit. But that project should wrap up this week so I can cast on a sock I’m able to share!

Stitched or Still-in-Progress

I made better progress on my cruise tee, and now I’m debating ramping up my efforts here after learning that Laura Nelkin is visiting Columbus in a month to present classes at an LYS!

Pattern: Ceci-T by Laura Nelkin; yarn: Serena by Manos del Uruguay in Sea Urchin (gray) and Marsala (red); using US3 (3.25mm) and US4 (3.5mm) needles

And I only had a few moments to add to the zigzag blanket, resulting in two zigs and one zag. 😆 I also noticed that there’s a lot more of this colorway than the others I’ve used. That means I never tapped this one to be included in a scrappy sock. Zombody Wolverine was too special to mash up with other yarns, lol.

Ten Stitch Zigzag – pattern by Frankie Brown; yarn: Desert Vista Dyeworks Viso in a multitude of colorways, on US3 (3.25mm) needles

The stockinette-forever hat is continuing to grow, too. I need to measure it at this point just to get a sense of how soon I’ll be switching to ribbing. Right now this is my only truly mindless knitting project on the needles. With a couple trips to the movie theater planned this week, I may make some decent progress on it.

Pattern: Same As It Ever Was by Sarah Jordan; yarn: Knit Picks Palette, starting with Chicory colorway, knit on US2 (2.5mm) needles

And lastly, I have the test knit toddler sweater I shared as a cast-on last week. I finished the lower body and started on the sleeves. The sleeves will be joined to the body when ready, and then I’ll work the yoke and such. There’s also a knitted collar and a couple buttons to be added, I believe. I haven’t thought that far ahead yet as I have sleeve increases to work through right now.

Pattern: Heath by Triona Murphy; yarn: Reynolds Signature in Claret, knit on US6 (4.0mm) and US7 (4.5mm) needles

Cast-on Conversations

This week I also received a yarn order I’d placed the week before on a whim. Laura Nelkin has started a KAL for her Lake Hug design, the Lake Hug Sweater Scarf (Ravelry link). It’s basically a shawl with sleeves, knit in a US-sourced wool-cotton blend yarn. Given the knit along, Laura secured a discount code from the yarn supplier. I can’t resist a nice discount, especially when I saw the red option! I want to get through at least one of my test knits before I cast on for this – but it’s extremely tempting!!!!!

Yarn: Green Mountain Spinnery’s Cotton Comfort DK in Red 😉

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 14th year, my first. If you would like to find out more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, please check it out; it’s a very welcoming group!

Environment Evolution

This past weekend I put in over seven hours of effort to dig out my office. I shared the nitty gritty images in this blog post, but today was the start of enjoying the rewards of that effort! Being able to walk into my office casually, rather than picking my way through the not-so-obvious path – I’m terribly embarrassed that the room had gotten so trashed (seriously – five bags of trash and more!), but it’s a symptom of my struggles with depression and loneliness. A spark that really helped fuel my efforts here was knowing that a friend would like to come to visit – if I can make it work, I’d really like to open my home for guests in the future, and not just my grandson!

In other news on the home front (see what I did there?) – my new front porch should be in place this week!! Originally scheduled for later in the month, the concrete specialists have had a shift in their calendar. I’ve ordered a new mailbox to replace the old one since the old handrail will be removed this week. And new handrails will be ordered once the new steps are in place. I should have pictures to share then in the next week!

The office still has some work to complete, but it’s a huge relief to have the floor cleared! I’ll be dropping off donations to Goodwill this week, and the contents of the various shelving units will be reviewed and decluttered next. Exciting changes!!

Grandson Glimpses

Part of my low emotional state (remember the roller coaster I mentioned last week?) has been being separated from my munchkin. 😭 It’s been over a month since he was last here to visit, and I haven’t talked with him on FaceTime since before my birthday in mid-April. With Mother’s Day coming up, I do hope I’m able to talk with him at least. Today I was pleasantly surprised when his mama shared some pictures.

Gotta love that smile!!!!!

I’m making use of the time I have with him not visiting, continuing to declutter my house and earn extra money through DoorDash (had another really good week!) so that when he does come to visit I don’t have any distractions or concerns about other things I should be doing.

I’ve also had some Movie Moments recently with a few more to come, so another blog post is in the works to share my thoughts on those.

Knit on. 🧶

The Hug Sweater is going to be great in that red colorway. What a cute toddler sweater.

Thanks! I do hope my grandson likes the sweater. But at a minimum it will make it into a photo shoot at some point!

Decluttering can be physically and mentally hard but the weight that is lifted when things finally leave is worth the effort. Well done for your efforts, hopefully you will get to host your grandson at some point in the near future.
