I had thought about a month-end summary for February, but with time passing so quickly, I decided to wait until the end of the quarter to do a look-back. It’s been a busy week and I have some fun stuff to share, so here goes!
Stitched or Still-in-Progress
I made good progress on my WIPs, though the vanilla sock isn’t quite done yet. Maybe this week!

And the gray side of my rainbow scarf is moving along. I’m expecting to have the same number of repeats as the rainbow side, and I’m considering the mod that others have made which would mirror the increase beginning to decrease to a tip at the end.

Cast-on Conversations
I have two projects I started this week, and another one to talk about. First up, a small scarf design from Laura Nelkin. I received the kit back in 2024, complete with yarn and beads and a strand of flosser to place the beads on each stitch for the beaded row. Fun fact: The basic stitch patterns here are almost identical to the design for the Da Light scarf I’ve been working on. That makes it even easier to work up since the muscle memory is good for those design elements.

Lastly, I started on a tee for one of the Zombie Knits members’ challenges. I worked up a swatch to make sure my gauge is good. I ended up casting on twice because on my first attempt, the stitches got twisted when I joined in the round. I decided to knit flat for a couple rows before joining to avoid making that mistake on the second try. The design is for worsted weight yarn achieved by holding two strands of fingering weight held together. My main color is marbled because I’m holding two different colors together. My contrast color will be a single yarn held double.

Lastly, I received a shipment of yarn today from Leading Men Fiber Arts – in the Down Cellar Studio Pigskin Party, I won a participation prize last month, a design from Paper Daisy Creations. Given my love of rainbow shawls, I opted for the pattern Sugar Pop and bought this yarn:

Grandson Glimpses
The munchkin has been in a good mood most of the time this past week, so I’ve benefited from his visits. Much like I shared last week, he’s asked to hear music to sing and dance to. Unless I’m in a meeting, I’m happy to oblige! He also enjoys helping me to wind yarn, and he’s pretty good at working my electric winder.

This weekend he provided some entertainment as he found a cable needle in my supplies, and he thought it looks like a snake. I can see that inspiration, and it’s provided him with lots of inspiration!

Environment Evolution
I’ve continued to work on decluttering throughout my living space. This weekend I tackled the “island” of clothes that was dominating my bedroom floor. I didn’t think to grab pictures before I started working, but I’m now thrilled that I can get out of bed and walk directly to the door instead of skirting around a mound of things. Still more to do, so I’ll should get some progress photos soon. I also took pictures of a couple stains on the carpet. They’ve been there for quite a while as my bed used to cover them. I’ve made a couple passes to clean the big one, but it’s going to take at least a couple more with lots of elbow grease. But it’s improving!

I also finally remembered to take a picture of my china… several weeks ago, I emptied out the old microwave stand to clear space in the kitchen, and I opted to save just two dinner plates and two salad/dessert plates from my twelve-place-setting china collection. I picked this pattern when I was getting married, though it was only my parents and aunt who built up the collection. Twelve place settings is really ridiculous, as we never hosted more than four people at once, so at most we’d need six. So ten of each plate size plus twelve tea cups & saucers, a creamer and a gravy boat went to Goodwill. I also kept the two serving bowls as I can always put those to use. It’s a very pretty pattern, so I’m glad I kept these, and now I’m using them regularly!

Travel Tales
Just a quick note here as my journal has been reminding me all week that it was a year ago that I embarked on the South American cruise adventure with Laura Nelkin and her cohort. I’m contemplating joining her on another cruise adventure in 2028, though I have to see what the price tag is for it. That would likely be a retirement celebration, if I go.
The time change for Daylight Savings Time has my head a little fuzzy, so I’ll close out here. There’s sure to be more to share next week!
Knit on. 🧶
