#MarkItMonday and Year of Projects Week 31

Hello February! I’ve heard lots of people saying that January felt like it was 900+ days long. I don’t agree with that sentiment, but because I had a lot going on in the month, it didn’t feel as speedy as the end of 2024. As I’m evaluating my blog content, I will be changing things up a bit going forward, just to give you a heads up. 😄 Today it’s all about knitting, though I don’t have much to share.

Stitched or Still-in-Progress

I do have a finished object to share! It’s been a while since I could say that. The socks I had started back in late October saw enough attention to be completed. I did lose at yarn chicken, though, as my contrast yarn ran out before I completed the bind-off. I adapted, though, using a technique that I learned from the Yarn Harlot. Once I had bound off to the point where I only had enough working yarn to weave in as a tail, I shifted to the end of the round and just lifted each stitch up and over its neighbor to bind it off (similar to what you do for a traditional bind off, but without using any yarn and also working backwards.

I tried to find Stephanie’s blog post about the technique and how she used it on a shawl, but I didn’t have any luck. Fortunately, the technique has been around for a while, so I found this YouTube video to demonstrate it. Anyway, now I need to wind up another skein of yarn so I have a SIP (Sock In Progress) for my next movie-going experience.

SHaGS – pattern by Sarah Jordan, yarn: Fibernymph Dye Works Bounce in colorways Green Dragon (MC) and Brandywine Blue (CC) on US1 (2.25mm

And the only other project I worked on at all was the fingering weight blanket. I’d hoped to at least finish the second row, but my knitting mojo has been hibernating a bit these days. With the plans I have for this month (to be outlined later), I should be able to make progress on my other WIPs. Wish me luck!

Ten Stitch Zigzag – pattern by Frankie Brown; yarn: Desert Vista Dyeworks Viso in a multitude of colorways, on US3 (3.25mm) needles

This is a Year of Projects post. Officially the Group is in its 14th year, my first. If you would like to find out more about the Year of Projects Group on Ravelry, please check it out; it’s a very welcoming group!

Knit on. 🧶

Good tip. Thanks for sharing. I hadn’t heard of doing that. I too always like to have a pair of socks on needles.

Glad I could share something that could prove useful! Obviously, we prefer not to need such a technique, but it could save you from having to rip back!

What a great tip! I’ve also never heard of that before. This is why I love reading blogs! My parents and sister read my blog so it’s their way of keeping up with what I’m up to as we live so far away and all hate the phone. But I hope sometimes I’ll share something equally useful to someone.

I’m so glad I could share something of value! I feel the same about the phone, lol. I’m not sure my family knows about my blog though, lol. In some ways that helps me to be more vulnerable, actually. I share about my struggles and successes because I know I’m not alone in either. Being open creates so much more than just presenting happy moments as I do on social media.

I love that idea too, the lifting the stitches over if you ran out of yarn. I’m going to remember that. (I hope!)
